The internet potentially provides you with near instant access to the people's of the world and the right website can potentially provide you with a decent money making income. But there are a few catches. For those looking for instant internet money making, look away now, for it simply ain't that simple!

Using the internet doesn't change the fundamental rule of business: that time, dedication and perseverance are the keys to success. Of course you can go to auction sites and apparently pick up a 'ready made' home based business opportunity for a few hundred pounds, but these are seldom what they seem. Often they come with exaggerated claims as to their success and once you've parted with your hard earned cash, turn out to be real dummies.

So think of some words that relate to gifts (or your choice) that you are thinking of using to get people to visit your site. Think of five or six and write them down. Now lets check out if those words are any good! Go to www.wordtracker.com and sign up for a free trial. This trial will give you some advice on the potential success of your chosen keywords. After signing up, you'll quickly get an email back with a link to start the trial. Now type in the first of your five or six keywords and complete the process. At the end you'll be given a list of the keywords popularity together with a KEI figure. (Don't worry too much about KEI at this stage, just remember that below 40 won't get you anywhere at all, and above 100 is looking promising.) Now go back and do the same for your remaining chosen keywords and examine the results. If you can't identify keywords with a KEI of above 40, then you're doomed before you even start. You could have the most fabulous site in the world, but without those distinctive keywords with KEI of 40 and above, no one will ever know as you'll never get found, and if you're never found, no one will ever buy from you.

So that's your first step, identify those keywords that will make people come to your site. Once achieved, and it may take some time, you need to decide on a suitable name for your venture and identify whether the name is available. Again this is becoming increasingly difficult as many names have now been taken, or parked - that is someone has bought a good domain name for peanuts that puts it up for sale hoping to make a sizeable return on their investment.

Go to www.streamline.net for instance to check out whether your chosen name is available. If it is, then best snap it up as it may soon be gone!

So now, you know what you want to sell, be it either a product or a service, you've identified keywords of KEI 40 + that will get your website into the search engines and you've registered your website's name and got it hosted. Well, that was the easy part! You know need to design and fill your website with fresh, original material that will make all the little spider robots who will visit your site and report back to their masters, whether that be Yahoo, Google, MSN etc and make them think, "hey, this is good, original stuff, unlike anything we've visited before". We cannot stress enough that there are millions upon millions of sites out there, you're really does have to be very special to stand out from the crowd. Think of the internet as the biggest shopping centre you can imagine and you've decided to set up shop there.

Why would people bother to seek you out when there are already many thousands of established places doing exactly what you're proposing to do.

If you're not unique, you're not going to make it.
