Okay, rather than diving in head first, let's test the market for the product or service you have chosen. The easiest way to do this is to sell on the Ebay auction site. Why? |

Simply because the market for home work opportunities is overcrowded, and whilst you may have the very latest in home based business ideas, there are very few proven unique ways to earn money online. Ebay helps you test
your market as millions of people use the site giving you a ready market
place rather than endlessly waiting for your website to crawl up the search
engines which can take up to six months. You're ready and eager to go now, right? Well using Ebay can get you up and running in hours and you'll soon find out whether people actually want what you have to offer before you invest heavily in time and effort in a project that may end up not being worthwhile. Do you actually enjoy packing goods up, posting them etc? All questions that will inform your developing venture. Once you have achieved this you be in a clearer position as to how you want to proceed. Of course, at this stage, you might decide that you simply wish to continue to expand you activities on Ebay and put the website idea to one side, but that would be missing out on some much more potential revenue. Put simply, when you post goods out to people following an Ebay sale, why not drop in a note thanking the customer for their purchase and inviting them to visit your website where there are so many more exclusive bargains? One issue that you will face is where to purchase your stock for resale. Many wholesalers will want evidence that you are actually a trader and may request trade references and/or a VAT number. One, and possibly the easiest way to get around this problem is to start dropshipping. Dropshipping is very much an American
creation. Essentially you sign up as a dropshipper by paying a fee (normally
around £25), you then get access to the wholesaler's complete catalogue of
goods. You advertise these for sale on Ebay or on your own site, then when a
sale is made, you forward the order to the dropshipping company who despatch the
goods on your behalf. The advantage of this system is that you do not hold any stock and you get the opportunity to identify goods that sell well and those that don't. Additionally there is less work involved. Let's take an example. Your dropshipper is selling good X at a dropshipping price of £5.00 + £2.00 shipping. You sell the goods for £9.00 + £2.00 Shipping. When sold, you simply advise the dropshipper and pay them £7.00 (the cost of the item + postage) and keep the remaining £4.00 for yourself. You don't make as much profit this way, but then again, you don't carry the risk of buying bulk goods that you cannot shift. Once you have identified good selling lines, you can then normally purchase at full trade rates and keep more profits for yourself. The downside to dropshipping is that the article you are selling may suddenly become out of stock and you have made a sale that you cannot fulfil and have to refund the monies paid. Never a comfortable idea for a business person.
There are many good dropshippers around
the world and in the UK, simply undertake a search for dropshippers to
identify those in the market you are trying to corner.
